Calm before the next storm?

The tropics are quiet at the moment. But it's been a record-setting year - for the first time in history, the twenly-one names on the Atlantic cyclone list weren't enough to cover all the named storms., and the folks at the National Hurricane Center had to dip into the Greek alphabet, with Hurricane Beta being the latest devastator of record. And the Atlantic hurricane season isn't over until the end of this month.

Which, since I recently re-read Spider Robinson's Callahan's Key, got me thinking. If yet another storm develops and makes landfall with hurricane strength, someone's likely to find out the hard way the energy of Gamma wavelengths ...
