Random Thoughts on Election Eve

  • Courtesy of rivka and her wonderful Respectful of Otters blog, I found that Massachusetts is on the list of states that require employers to allow their workers to take leave and vote. Now, I work for my own company, so it's a good thing that I was planning to allow myself to go and vote anyway; it would have been bad news if I'd tried to keep myself from voting ...
  • The guy behind http://www.electoral-vote.com turns out to be Andrew Tanenbaum - the same guy who wrote the textbook from which I learned about computer networking.
  • ABC News sent teams of producers to various Bush/Cheney and Kerry/Edwards rallies wearing "opposition" T-shirts to see what would happen. The Bush/Cheney folks had the cops throw the T-shirt wearers out; the Kerry/Edwards folks let them in but surrounded them with "dancing Kerry campaign workers" whose job it was to make sure that the national press didn't see them.

And, finally ... I'll quote the grand finale from "Fax Paladin"'s 2000 filking of "One Day More" from Les Miz:

ALL: Tomorrow is the judgement day
Tomorrow we'll discover
What all the voters have in store...
One more dawn...
One more day...
One day more!
